Professional team headshots are definitely an investment but done right they’re well worth it! High-quality headshots can help your company make a great first impression. Here are some tips to get the most out of your team headshots.
Establish a Standard
Consistency in team headshots starts with establishing a standard look that works with your brand. The more specific you can be, the more consistent the result. Ask yourself things like:
- Should it be outdoors or indoors?
- What type of background: environmental or a studio look?
- What color background?
- Do you want them cropped horizontal or vertical?
- What type of lighting should be used: directional, bright and airy, etc.?
- What type of clothing: business formal, something more casual, a standard uniform?
Don’t worry if you don’t know the answers to some of these questions, a well-trained photographer can help you make the right decisions, just ask!
Be Realistic with Time
Depending on the look you’re going for, each person can take as few as 5 minutes. Keep in mind that some may take a bit more time to get comfortable. It’s important to make sure you’re giving each person ample time to try a few different poses and expressions to capture something that looks authentic.
Create a Schedule
It’s always a challenge getting a team of people together at the same time! Scheduling time slots is a great way to stay organized and make sure everything flows smoothly.
For larger teams, consider splitting the session into multiple days to give the most scheduling flexibility. Some team members have more time in the mornings, some more in the afternoons. Make it as easy as possible for people to fit the headshot session into their schedule and you’ll make the process easier for you as well.
Provide Instructions Ahead of Time
Getting a headshot taken is intimidating for a lot of people. It’s often something they dread! Make it less scary by providing tips for getting ready, advice on what clothing to wear, and suggestions for grooming and/or makeup. Sending out multiple reminders is a great way to make sure everyone gets the message and feels more comfortable on session day.
Not sure what to tell your team? Don’t worry! Your photographer can provide all the tips and tricks you need.
Getting great headshots of your team doesn’t have to be difficult. Think of it as an investment in your company’s future marketing efforts. The more effort and thought you put into planning, the better the results and the easier it will be to replicate things down the road!
