Do you make resolutions this time of year? Things like exercising more, losing weight, etc. come to mind.
How about in business? Do you make resolutions there?
Of course you do! …Only in business we call them goals. So I have a goal for you in the new year: how about working smarter rather than harder?
It is so easy to get overwhelmed with advertising, blog posts, websites, social media, etc. These things are not in a typical business owner’s wheelhouse, and it becomes a continuous battle to manage it all. Never fear! I have some tips for you:
Break Things Down
When it comes to marketing your business, sometimes less is more. Start by picking two types of marketing that you want to focus on. Maybe it’s in-person networking and social media. Then break it down further. Remember… it’s a marathon, not a sprint!
Determine where your ideal clients hang out and focus on networking in the organizations where you’re most likely to come in contact with them. Start with one. Build relationships with people. You can always add more later.
This concept also applies to social media. Is your ideal client on LinkedIn? Start there! Take the time to establish yourself and build trust. You may decide you don’t need to be anywhere else.
Batch Create Marketing Assets
Things like brochures, flyers, signs, websites, social media pages, etc. and the entirety of it all can be overwhelming. Creating these things takes planning; gathering of information, images, etc. Not to mention the time it takes to brainstorm and put everything together. And that’s if you know what you’re doing!
Now imagine you could get help with those things. This is where a brand photography session can be your secret weapon!
A professional photographer could come in and create a library of perfectly branded images you can use for all of your marketing needs—in one day! One session can create 100s of images, so you’ll have a library of images to pull from when you plan and schedule your posts. A well-planned brand session with a professional photographer can accomplish all of that in a fraction of the time it would take you to do it yourself! No more searching for stock photos, you have what you need at your fingertips.
Then you can batch create the assets you need for marketing. This means creating all of the graphics you’ll need for the month at one time so you can have them ready to go when you post. You can even schedule your posts ahead of time so they go out automatically. All of this can be done in a few hours, rather than taking an hour or two here and there throughout the month. It also makes your marketing more effective…you won’t be scrambling to put “something” out there.
Outsource Where You Can
On the surface, outsourcing seems expensive. But for some tasks and projects that expense is minimal compared to the benefits it provides.
Let’s say you have a special project. Will the project or task at hand require purchasing equipment? Will you need more space to do it correctly? More training? Outsourcing to contractors can offset the costs of procuring things you may only need for a short period of time.
As another example, outsourcing can fill the gaps in your staff, allowing you to take time to find the right person to join the team. It’s certainly less expensive than hiring the wrong person! It’s also less responsibility, because the overhead costs associated with employees are carried by someone else.
Think about how many opportunities you may be missing out on because your staff is overwhelmed, a project keeps getting put on the back burner, or you just don’t have the expertise or talent to do something correctly? What if you could hire an expert in a particular area, with experience that will get a project done better and faster? What would be the return on that investment? What kind of money could that actually be saving you?
Time is money, right? That’s the power of outsourcing.
